Styles of BCD Scuba Diving Equipment

There are many different types of BCD scuba devices available on the market today. The letters BCD stand for “buoyancy control device” and they are what a diver uses to control the amount of buoyancy needed when making a dive. It is advised that if you have an interest in scuba diving that you learn as much as possible about the BCD device to help you stay safe. Every BCD device is designed with straps and pockets that will hold other gear that will be needed on the dive. Of course, they also have a harness to hold the air tank in place.

It should be easy for you to find the perfect style BCD scuba device since there is such a wide variety of them available. Two of the most popular styles are the vest design and the wing style BCD. The vest is fairly simple with straps holding it together in the front and bladders made into the sides to hold other necessary equipment. The wing style has “balloons” extended from the back and sides in place of the bladders that the vest have. These are for holding equipment as well and this style hooks together in the front with buckles.

When buying a BCD scuba device there are several main features that you need to search for to have a good quality device to suit your body and for your scuba diving preference. Since keeping up with all of your gear is imperative then you need to buy a style in which the compartments have strong Velcro holding them together or ones that zip. Adjustable straps that don’t cause rubbing or make your skin chafe will be necessary for comfort and you should have access to a quick release option if needed. You should also buy a design that has the pressure release valves in an area that is easy to reach and look for strong durable material that will last when used regularly.

Another important issue is size. You must buy a BCD scuba device that fits your body correctly. It needs to be very tight where it will not slide around but not so tight that it causes discomfort. Just like with life jackets a good lift capacity rating in very important and you need to make sure that you get the right rating for your body weight. This is the only way to ensure it will work properly for you. These devices come in a lot of different price ranges so finding ones that suits your body type and price range should be rather easy.
